I’d rather not think too deeply about how they got there, but the Yankees survived a scare of their own making in St. Louis. Going 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position is generally not a winning strategy! But they made it through, so take the win because MLB teams screw up during wins all the time. The Yankees’ problem of late has partially been that they’ve let the mistakes snowball. Won yesterday, win today, and hell, win tomorrow too.

Today on the site, Matt will take inspiration from the new Aaron Judge dog stuffed animals to make up some other goofy, fun Yankees merch, I’ll have double duty while tackling the Rivalry Roundup, and Nick Power will run the latest Yankees Rotation Depth Inventory. Later, Sam will have the newest edition of the 2000 Yankees Diary, and then we’ll have night baseball from the Lou!

New York Yankees vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Radio: WFAN 660/101.9 FM, WADO 1280

Venue: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO

1. Does Max Fried have a comeback start in him tonight after a rocky stretch? Predict the pitching line!

2. In honor of Brandon Young’s long perfect game bid in Houston last night, do you have a favorite no-hitter/perfecto from a totally anonymous dude? (No, Don Larsen doesn’t count because Yankees fans know him too well.) I always think about Bud Smith, the Cardinals rookie who no-hit the Padres in 2001 the day after Mike Mussina’s near-miss. He got into 11 games in ‘02 and went to the Phillies in the Scott Rolen deal, developed shoulder issues, and never actually appeared for the Phils before his career ended.
