As Mindy Kaling celebrated receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, fans once again pondered her relationship with close friend and The Office co-star B.J. Novak after his appearance at the official ceremony.
Novak gave a speech to honor Kaling at the event, saying at one point, “Congratulations, my soup snake. You’d be on the walk of talent if they had one. You’d be on the walk of friendship. You’d be on the walk of compassionate parenthood, but let’s face it: All of these would be terrible field trips. So here you are instead, very deservedly, a person who means so much to so many on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
At one point, while standing beside Kaling as she posed in front of her new star, Novak kissed her head, sending fans into a tailspin. Kaling and Novak have long faced dating rumors, so this moment got fans talking again.
After People shared a clip of the moment on social media, fans shared their thoughts and theories in the comments.
“I love how they’re probably married and don’t want to say it,” wrote one fan, as more said, “Do they know that we know they’re married?” and “the most open secret couple on the world.”
“So they’re NOT together…. Riiiight,” said another, while someone else joked that they were just “Method actors.”
One fan on X proclaimed that people will likely never know the reality of their relationship, saying, “All this learning but what’s the point? I’ll never know the truth about Mindy Kaling and B J Novak.”
Kaling has three children, but since she has never shared the identity of the father, it’s led many fans to speculate that Novak is their dad. At the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Kaling touched on these rumors, simply saying of Novak, “He’s such an important and integral part of my family that sometimes I forget that the reason that I know him is because we worked together professionally.”
Novak and Kaling starred as love interests, Ryan and Kelly, on The Office from 2005 to 2013.
