IRVINE, Calif. — The menu at Taco Bell is flush with delicious Mexican-inspired foods such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and now … chicken nuggets.

Taco Bell will debut its new crispy chicken nuggets at restaurants nationwide beginning Dec. 19, the fast food chain announced Tuesday. The chicken nuggets feature “crispy tortilla chip breading” and come with one of three dipping sauces: Jalapeño honey mustard, a new Taco “Bell Sauce” and a fire ranch sauce from Hidden Valley.

Taco Bell’s nationwide introduction of chicken nuggets to its menu comes after successful tests at restaurants in Minneapolis in 2023 and Houston earlier this year, the company said.

Taco Bell previously introduced nacho fries — another untraditional menu offering — in 2018 and it became “the most successful product launch in the company’s history,” according to its website.

“As the inventors of nacho fries, Taco Bell is fully aware that reinventing an American classic with a Taco Bell twist is a responsibility we don’t take lightly. But in a world dominated by chicken cravings, it was time to show the world how Taco Bell does chicken nuggets – unexpected and undeniably bold,” Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery said in the news release. “The crispy chicken nuggets deliver a crispier, more flavorful nugget experience, and combined with the Hidden Valley fire ranch sauce, we hope it will test people’s devotion to their favorite nuggets.”

In August, Taco Bell announced plans to expand its use of artificial intelligence at restaurant locations nationwide to assist with drive-thru orders. The company currently utilizes Voice AI technology at more than 100 restaurant locations in 13 states, noting it can help improve order accuracy and reduced wait times while easing the workload for employees, according to Yum! Brands, Taco Bell’s parent company.
